Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) is a call control protocol used within a distributed VoIP system. It is the successor to the Simple Gateway Control Protocol (SGCP) and the Internet Protocol Device Control (IPDC). It uses the SDP for specifying and negotiating the media streams to be transmitted in a session and RTP to transfer data packets.
