MS.Outlook.Express.NNTP.LIST.Buffer.Overflow

Description

This indicates a possible attempt to exploit a stack based buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Outlook Express.
The vulnerability is due to the news reader's failure to validate "LIST" responses from NNTP servers. An attacker can convince a victim to visit a malicious web site and then exploit this vulnerability by sending a "LIST" response with a long string in the second field, causing a buffer overflow. As a result, the attacker can execute arbitrary code on the system using the currently logged in user's permissions.
