MS.SMB.DCERPC.SRVSVC.PathCanonicalize.Overflow

Description

This indicates an attack attempt against a buffer-overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Windows.
The vulnerability is caused by an error when the Server service handles some malicious RPC requests. By sending a specially crafted RPC request to the Server RPC interface, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.

Microsoft has released a critical update in the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-040 that fixes this vulnerability. Please apply the patch to all affected machines.
Protect your network by using multiple layers of security.
Use administrative accounts only for administrative purposes. Normal every day tasks should be performed using an unprivileged account.
