  • W32/Cutwail.K!tr is a trojan that is known to perform one or more of the following actions:
    • It may download and execute arbitrary files.
    • It injects its code to system process such as svchost.exe.
    • It modifies ndis.sys  as its stealth mechanism: This file is detected as W32/NtRootkit.AD!tr.
    • It is known to send spam and phishing emails.

  • It drops the following files:
    • undefinedSystemundefined\reader_s.exe
    • C:\Documents and Settings\undefinedUsernameundefined\reader_s.exe

  • It addes the following registry entries:
    • key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    • value: reader_s
    • data : "undefinedSystemundefined\reader_s.exe"

    • key : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    • value: reader_s
    • data : "C:\Documents and Settings\undefinedUsernameundefined\reader_s.exe"
